Moving Units – Review

Moving Units

(Palm Pictures)
by Emily Joyce

Moving Units are not an ’80s new wave tribute band like most others today. They incorporate a slice of Washington life and combine it with uptempo beats and “melodrama.” Their dance-savvy tunes liken them to New Order, and more current New Yorker electro-clash punk from Liars and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. But the Moving Units deliver disco breakdowns along with new wave elements on their self-titled EP. Blake Miller’s slurring, calm vocals are reminiscent of The Strokes and Hot Hot Heat, and the ever-present heavy guitar strums and pulsating drum machine beats create dance-quality sound. The Moving Units will make you move.
