Inferno Requiem – Gloomy Night Stories – Review

CD-Cover1Inferno Requiem

Gloomy Night Stories (Hell Ambassador)
By Scott Hefflon

With ChthoniC opening the world’s eyes to Chinese extreme metal, it was only a matter of time until someone released one of those hate-filled, bonesaw-sounding one-man blackfests. Here’s my cherry popped. This guy Fog is seething with hate, his guitar sound is trebly and loud, like Darkthrone and early, ugly Norwegian black metal, and his reverbed and distant vocals range from snakespit vomit to, nevermind, it’s all snakespit vomit. The clanking cymbals and thumpa-thumpa drumming reminds me of Kreator’s Pleasure to Kill, as in it doesn’t line up a lot of the time, and that’s part of the charm. “Shadow in The Deep Red Loft” actually slows down, but the rest is blastbeat hell. Oh, and the cover booklet has no text, just Chinese torture clipart. Cool.
