Bongzilla
Stash (Relapse)
by Craig Regala
Yes, a uh, concept album about the life of a bong and those whom the bent vase has affected. All to the tune of the basic post-Sabb uni-mind riff (think “Sweet Leaf” cut in half and played until some one decides the bong is lonely). The vocals are grit ugly, kinda strangled, and are aided and abetted by samples dealing with the noble herb, apparently the only thing worth living or fighting for. Hey, write what you know, know what you write. The music is orchestrially bombastic in a baked, stompy way that seems to owe much more to the Sleep/Vitus strain of riff loam than anything growing out of the more metal-as-metal or metal-as-gunk scenes.
