Lullacry
Be My God (Spikefarm/Century Media)
by Scott Hefflon
These guys rule! In spite of how hoaky they are (OK, maybe because of it, Lullacry tickling my ’80s mall-strutting sensibilities more than I wanna admit, but dude, the chick’s, like, hot’n’shit!), their Goth-tinged straight-up hard rock is celebratory like metal/hard rock rarely is these days. I mean, you can reference dated shit like Lita Ford or Doro/Warlock all ya want (and I’m glad to finally have something to reference when saying why Sinergy always falls short for me), this is ball-out female-fronted rock firmly planted in the sound of today and a classic style (no ironic hat-tipping here, no vintage “old metal guy” nods neither, thank fuckin’ God) that’s too busy having a blast to give a rat’s ass if you think it’s cool or not. They’re from Finland and signed to Spikefarm, and if that’s not ringing any bells, how much hand-holding do you need, huh?
