Edge of Sanity – Infernal – Review

Edge of Sanity

Infernal (Black Mark)
by Scott Hefflon

It’d be tough to top last year’s Crimson (one glorious 40 minute epic), so Infernal returns to its roots, thus adding one more death metal record to our collections. Perhaps it’s unfair to doubt EOS’ authenticity as a death band simply because they can actually write and perform better than most in the genre, but that’s how I feel. Infernal has impressive riffs up the whazzo, but it’s the thin production that limits the overall effect – Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Abyss, etc.) has done much better. While there is a similarity to late ’80s Kreator in style and sound, a decade later, crisp is synonymous with thin. Despite the bitching, I like this record.
