Dogpiss – Eine Kleine Punkmusik – Review

Dogpiss

Eine Kleine Punkmusik (Honest Don’s)
by Scott Hefflon

Opening with “Hello,” a surprisingly metallic chug whose only lyric is the word hello (applying the less-is-more philosophy to Cheap Trick’s opener, “Hello There” perhaps?), Dogpiss introduce themselves as an odd breed of metal-sounding punk with strong Beatles influences. Combining UK notables Duncan Redmonds and Lee Murphy from Snuff and Jools from Guns ‘N Wankers, it’s not surprising that Dogpiss is tight, peppy, and has found a home on Fat Wreck Chords-affiliated label, Honest Don’s (Had my Wife). Mixing in the occasional ska bridge, a few guitar rock solos, a lot of metal roaring guitars, and a distinctively British inflection (think Bracket a few years ago, then remember that everyone likes to sound like they’re from England), which makes sense cuz they’re, like, actually from England. They can say the phrase “bollocks to it all” without sounding like 16-year old “punks” from some mid-American suburb using the word “Oi.” While distinctive within the accepted punk sound, the 13 songs kinda blend together after a while, but simply for something different (and quite good, don’t get me wrong), Dogpiss comes highly recommended.
