Keyboardist Damir Prcic is a Bosnian native, his parent’s still residing there, so I guess you could say he has a personal interest in the benefit tonight at 186.

This might not have been their best set ever, but they pulled it off with a smile, closing with an unplugged Sly Stone cover. Singer/guitarist Matt Stone’s acoustic through a wah-wah was an interesting touch, and the rayon print bell-bottom slacks must have been hard to find (mom’s closet?). Leonardo Cioglia (what is it with the names in this band?) filled in on acoustic bass for the absent Why Not Janveld (?!!). Drummer Andrew Frawley rounds out the crew of retro funksters.

Their 10-song CD was produced by Pop of Pop’s Cool Love who’s other credits include Fishbone, Cypress Hill, and Janet Jackson. For a taste, try it on the downstairs juke at Local 186.

Being the first act on a bill that includes 6L6, Big Catholic Guilt, and El Dopa is no easy task, but they came for a reason and should be thanked for helping to bring attention to an important cause.
