Sugartooth – Review

Sugartooth

Think of a classic muscle car, like an Olds 442, one that can rip up the roadways and still prowl around calmly looking slick and menacing. It’s not fancy, yet it’s cool and has a great roar. The band Sugartooth (Geffen Records) is something like that 442. Four guys who roar with no frills rock power.

A dark and somewhat angry edge fuels Sugartooth. This is HARD rock leaning towards the metal-punk feeling. Solid grooves, power chords galore and raspy on-key vocals abound on this disc. It’s hard to nail down exactly what makes Sugartooth worth listening to. It may be their honesty and originality. There’s a decidedly bluesy feel to their sound and they seem to make it all sound fresh and striking. This may not be a monster, but Sugartooth may swivel some heads and damage some ears with this release.
