Oasis

British rockers Oasis played to a full house at Local 186 on October the 21st. With their British Invasion/alternative/ punk sound, they got the droves of humans frolicking like pagans during a ritual. Oasis possess simple, steady, rocking rhythms mixed with lower level changes and straightforward beats on the skins. Some tricky guitarwork, courtesy of lead guitarist Noel Gallagher, gave them a catchy hook, which made up for the band’s mundane moments, which were far and few between.

Oasis were never totally boring to behold. One thing Oasis doesn’t lack is energy. Drummer Tony McCarroll thumps along with a strong vibe that makes you notice Oasis on a stage. Bassist Paul McGuigan bridges the gap between drum and guitar while Paul Arthurs takes that attention-getting hammering and channels it through his rhythm guitar. Singer Liam Gallagher’s British accent accentuates whatever he’s singing at any given moment.

Oasis is better than most punk revivalist bands and makes for a great night out. To evaluate their studio sound for yourself, pick up their Definitely Maybe disc on Epic.
