Gas Huffer – with The Cramps at Avalon – Review

Gas Huffer

with The Cramps at Avalon
by Paul Lee

What struck me about Gas Huffer is that nothing really struck me. Their sound is punk with rockabilly and blues leanings. Gas Huffer consists of four guys, one with an only slightly distorted Les Paul, a bassist with a good, thundering Precision, a drummer with a meager kit, and a singer with spastic tendencies. Good beer drinkin’ tunes with funny subject matter. The singer spouted something like, “This is a song about little tiny cars for little tiny people.” The geek-factor is high for this man.

There were a few songs that stuck in my skull. The dancing fool (who bopped remarkably like a chicken) described one tune as, “A song about a bomb-squad.” It was a three-chord, fast-paced song with minor changes between the chords – truly a novel concept. But, it was an entertaining song nonetheless. I seem to recall another one that was like a blues shuffle on nitrous-oxide.
