Fracture – Proper Burial – Review

Fracture

Proper Burial (Decadent World-View)
by Angela Dauthi

As far as Boston goes, industrial isn’t really the big musical thing. You can go see a million shitty pop bands, but where do you go to see a band that has explosive samples, sado-masochistic lyrics, and an angry taint that pervades your conciousness? Go see Fracture. Their first release, Proper Burial (on their own label, created out of nessecity, Decadent World-View), has all you need in a good industrial band: Aggressive beats, distorted vocals, and plenty of electronics. But there’s something else, something that makes them rise to the top. Their samples are creative and interesting, not just the standard fodder of screams and clanging metal. They’re also aesthetically placed, always capturing interest. And another thing, something I really like. A lot of their songs are about bitchy dominas who will rip your heart out just for fun. “Goddess,” “Discipline,” and “One Quick Twist” all show that these boys know how to behave when commanded by a superior. You’ll probably see me at their next show. Perhaps I’ll test their limits… after they’ve finished playing with their amplified toys, of course.
