Yellow Pills – Volume 3 – Review

Yellow Pills

Volume 3 (Big Deal)
by Chris Adams

Yellow Pills is a series of records devoted to power pop, which essentially means catchy, guitar-based, American-sounding pop tunes. And thereby hangs the tale. In one sense, this album is entirely likable – what’s not to enjoy about uptempo, hook-drenched, melody-smothered, twangy songs about girls? Why, nothing at all, except for the fact that it’s 21 of those songs – in a row. After a while, you get the feeling that you’ve been trapped in a bus full of optimistic, jilted boyfriends with high voices and acoustic guitars for a couple millennium. Best taken in small saccharin doses.
