Troy – Everything/West Chicago One (7″) – Review

Troy

Everything/West Chicago One
by Sheril Stanford

The striking thing about the two songs on this 7″ from Troy, a band fronted by former Voodoo Doll’s bassist Troy Richards, is how stylistically varied they are. Both tunes boast honest, intelligent lyrics and satisfying, sassy melodies, but that’s where the similarities end. “West Chicago One” is pure, unadulterated roll-the-windows-down-and-turn-it-up rock ‘n’ roll, familiar but fresh and vibrant, no apologies. Flip the single over and you get “Everything,” evocative of an entirely different rock mood. Well-crafted with seductive, layered guitars and dark, potent vocals, the sound is both complex and raw.
