Chester Copperpot – Poems & Short Stories – Review

Chester Copperpot

Poems & Short Stories (Manifesto)
by Rich Romaine

While usually not a fan of Dumb Rock, Chester Copperpot dances joyfully on the airwaves as I drink a tasty T&T and watch the traffic go by. This power pop threesome, upon grudgingly dissecting yet another press kit, are from Sweden and enjoy volleyball, dolphins, lazing around, and writing simple, catchy songs about things they like. While the name sounds hoaky folky, it’s actually from The Goonies, and doesn’t reflect the band’s love of pure guitar-oriented pop and straining vocals. While none of the songs are about sweaters, comparisons to Weezer are inevitable, and somewhat founded. While not as hopelessly catchy as Weezer, who I believe achieve a Zen-like state of peace through profound inanity, Poems & Short Stories is charmingly stupid.
