From the Kinks “All Day And All Of The Night,” to the Beatles imitation “1000 Ways,” to the psychotic “Murder In The Moors,” these guys have it down. You shouldn’t record this kind of music straight to DAT; you have to record it on a borrowed, reused half inch reel to reel, with, say, three mics, then leave the reel in the rain before sending it to the company that’ll transfer it to CD, usually the lowest bidder. Only then can you get a sound that’s raw as rugburn on your elbows.
