The Resonance Found at the Core of a Bubble – Review

The Resonance Found at the Core of a Bubble

(Bubble Core)
by Joshua Brown

The 1st Bubble Core Records Sampler showcased some of the worst examples in indie pop of what would be the visual equivalent of groups of adults trying to imitate their childhood finger paintings. In addition there were some ambient drone-a-thons. That one didn’t sell, so now they’re focusing entirely on the “illbient” side of ambient and trip hop. Some of it is actually archaic “experimental” composition that’s more headache inducing than “trance” inducing. Illbient can be cool, but this compilation’s just too fucking boring. By the time you’ve listened to two tracks in a row, the urge to eject this disc from your player is too urgent to deny. This isn’t the kind of drone that puts you to sleep. It keeps you awake in a zombified state when you should be sleeping. DJ Spooky does one of the songs.
