Canine – Review

Canine

by Steve Tremain

This four-song cassette is a blend of rock, grunge, funk, and other similar genres. I saw them last year when they were Canine Guru at The Rat, and they were pretty damn good. (I was also drunk, but no matter. They were still good). What I liked about them then was their inclusion of a second percussionist, throwing cross-grooves around like confetti. He’s not with them anymore. I guess he was the Guru, because they’re just Canine now. I wonder how many Peter Steele fans they disturb. Anyway, the music: They’re certainly next in line for immediate WBCN airplay, and although they don’t go anywhere especially new, Canine is solid and know their material well. If you ever want a soundtrack to go with drinking a six pack while driving too fast on some suburban back road, car packed with ten of your friends, this would be it.
