Frigg A-Go-Go – The Winning Score – Review

Frigg A-Go-Go

The Winning Score (Scooch Pooch)
by Jon Sarre

The incomparable Mr. Tim Kerr (o’ the Lord High Fixers) produced these bratty-soundin’ Louisiana R&B punkers. Right there, ya gotta know it’s gonna be good. It get’s better, too, cuz Frigg A Go-Go’s fourteen keys up front fuzz-toned compositions are merely the sweatiest, toughest examples of a brilliantly conceived repetition (it’s repetitive cuz they break no new ground to speak of, ya don’t wanna do that in swampy Louisiana anyhow, that’s why they bury people topside in New Orleans) since I don’t know who figured out that scratchy copies of “96 Tears” are as relevant now as they were thirty years ago. Rock’n’roll’s as much about tradition, if not more so, than any other genre of popular music. Don’t ever forget that. Hell, the so-called revivalists are usually better anyway, cuz they consistently entertain better and harder than the jerks who hold back cuz they don’t wanna let on that their facade is just that.

Frigg’s not afraid to predict that they’ll win out in the end either, no matter what the public is told to swallow, that’s why they call this record The Winning Score, dumbass! Crucial Ronnie Action spouts his mouth and guitar off like a leerin’ tongue speaker preacher cravin’ sin and easy women and his fellow Friggs, the rhythm section of Chadwicked (drums) and Jeremy “I’ve Got A Regular Name” Steward (bass) hammer each and every point home whilst, Sir Critian Leo drives every song past the point of no return with his omni-present organ riffs. Sure, you’ve heard that song before, but who ever said that was valid criteria? This is rock’n’roll, son!
