Carnal Forge – The More You Suffer – Review

Carnal Forge

The More You Suffer (Century Media)
by Martin Popoff

Often called Sweden’s answer to Slayer, Carnal Forge have more in common with The Haunted than anything, even though the Kuusisto bros. inject more groove, more spaces, into their clanking, neck-yanking attack. The unfortunate fact is, this is another band that’s lost the surprise factor, being around long enough without enough success to have become too familiar, their records not classed as events. Too bad, because track after track is a symphony of slam, the band changing things up enough to keep you peering around the next corner.

Most noticeable change is the increased variety of vocals and vocal effects. Able to complete with the top dogs of the (let’s face it, crowded) genre, Carnal Forge deal more than enough death visually and lyrically (lots of suicide) to match the mayhemic mathematical weaves of their tundra-toned guitar proposals. Touring will be key toward getting these guys more passionately and fondly taken to heart Stateside.
