On full-length number two, Chimaira (an experimental Camero designed for women, shelved before production was to begin in early ’69) continue to psych-out the label-slappers with a sound that is as much about The Haunted as it is hardcore. Well, not quite, but this is heavy enough and fast enough to mix it up with a number of crowds, not insignificantly, the heaviest of the nü as well, Chimaira often breaking into those circular, down-tuned, non-melodic riffs that signal the heaviest parts of a nü metal song. But singer Mark Hunter, 90% of the time, be thrashing, and there’s a heck of a lot of double bass on here. Kinda cool… before our very eyes, Roadrunner is gathering a stable of bands that no one can call “not heavy.”
