There need to be more industrial live/video/whatever DVDs, damn it! There’s maybe, what, 10 (in America), and a gazillion for every other genre? Thankfully, KMFDM & Metropolis Records heed the call and release an “Attak” on you with their latest DVD release Sturm & Drang, a visual documentation of the grueling 31 shows in 34 days summed up in 14 songs. This serves well simply due to the raw power of these shows and witnessing the band feeding off the energetic crowds and dishing it back.

They kick things off with “D.I.Y.,” then blow through “Dirty,” a song that best represents the newer KMFDM sound in full, unrestrained, excessive force in what looks like a war zone, with a barrage of lights and strobes blasting you from every angle. There are also some nice intermission clips between songs showing autograph sessions and candid moments. Most songs are from different shows spliced together, and while they give a diverse look at each show, in some ways, it takes away from focusing on a single performance.

I was surprised “Juke-Joint Jezebel” wasn’t played, seeing as it’s one of their biggest hits. Goodies on this extravaganza include guest performers like Chris Connelly, and squeezing in covers of “Find It, Fuck It, Forget It” by PIG and “Boots” by Lee Hazelwood or Nancy Sinatra (take your pick). Aside from the less-than-exciting main menu, this DVD packs enough punch to please any KMFDM fan.
