Clan of Xymox – Farewell – Review

Clan of Xymox

Farewell (Mertropolis)
by Wa

Over the years, Clan Of Xymox has been labelmates with legends the Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, The Pixies, and Throwing Muses on 4AD. Now, signed to Metropolis, it’s easy to tell they’ve embraced and learned something from each of these great bands and made it their own. Always a uniquely individual electro/Goth group, Farewell marks their 11th full-length masterpiece in a career that’s been up and down, but never completely out. Farewell is a poignant experience that covers the entire creative spectrum of electro-Goth. Blazing club-driven songs like “There’s No Tomorrow,” “Courageous,” and “Into Extremes” sit side by side with the atmospheric Sisters of Mercy/Love and Rockets-sounding “It’s Not Enough,” “Losing My Head,” and “One More Time.” They break new ground with the lush soundscapes presented in “Dark Mood” and “Skindeep.”

If you are an electro-Goth fan with tastes in the vein of The Crüxshadows, Sisters of Mercy, or Dead Poets Society, then this is simply a must-have record.
