The New Pornographers debut new video for “Dancehall Domine”

The official music video for The New Pornographers’ new single, “Dancehall Domine” premiered at VEVO and can be viewed here. Of the video, made by Leblanc + Cudmore, Scott Cudmore states, “Sometimes I like watching the b-roll or behind the scenes or outtakes on DVDs and blu-rays…’Dancehall Domine’ is meant to feel like a whole bunch of those clips sort of strung together as if they’re taken from some fucked up Italian or French musical maybe. Or a bunch of fragments from films like that—thrillers, bad romances, in one case we’re clearly referencing Clouzot’s famous L’enfer tests. We even have the man himself in there!”

“Dancehall Domine” is from the band’s new album, Brill Bruisers, which is out now on Matador Records. The record is the highest charting album in the band’s career and continues to receive widespread critical acclaim—Rolling Stone praises, “…exuberant, synthpop-infused set…” while NPR Music asserts, “With its wrecking crew of songwriters and singers, The New Pornographers’ long-running marriage of craft and immediacy puts this group of musicians right in line with Brill’s expert hit-makers,” and Billboard proclaims, “…the album features the group’s most beautiful, whimsical harmonies yet.” Additionally, Pitchfork selected the title track as a “Best New Track.” Moreover, the official music video for the track “War On The East Coast” recently premiered at Rolling Stone.

In celebration of the release, the band recently performed an NPR Music “First Listen Live” at the legendary Brill Building. Of the event, Rolling Stone made note of the, “New Pornographers’ Once-in-a-Lifetime Brill Building Set,” while Brooklyn Vegan asserted, “…a cool nod to pop songwriting’s past that clearly is an influence on The New Pornographers in general and their great new album, Brill Bruisers, specifically.” Furthermore, AC Newman elaborated, “This is a throwback to those classic Brill Building basement shows…”
