Big Todd and the Monsters – Stratagem – Review October 1, 1994 Alternative folkish rock, with Skynard-esque vocals and slightly crunchy guitar. The vocals only occasionally become tiring. The production is incredible.
60 Cycle Hum – Review October 1, 1994 A less savvy They Might Be Giants, the novelty of Hum’s approach is just too “white” here.
St. Chimerae – The Re Omen – Review September 1, 1994 Self-consciously dark, maybe a bit self-indulgent, but with good production and graphics.
Smooth Bamboo – Review September 1, 1994 Good vocals, weak lyrics. Put away the Human Sexual Response and U2 records and give the gig money to your guitarist. He deserves it.
Smackmelon – Review September 1, 1994 The sometimes biting sarcasm is carefully laced between the folds of the ringing guitars, and will sneak-smack you right upside the head.
Resin Sect – Review September 1, 1994 Good J-card, good production ideas, but overblown tunes. Much better than many local metal bands, but trim the mystical fat.
Orbit – “Motorama” – Review September 1, 1994 These guys debut with a shameless home eight track of catchy noise-pop tunes bearing an uncanny similarity to the Pixies early singles.
Home – Review September 1, 1994 Well-written, well-produced tunes from these R.E.M.-influenced twang-rockers. This one will grow on you strong.
Elixir – Review September 1, 1994 Dreams made bad. Rockin’ band, but the singer needs to stay late in Melody 101.
