I loved Lock Up the moment I heard rumors about their existence. I didn’t even need to hear the band to know what was in store: heart-warming grindcore.
It must be in Therion’s contract that they release thrown-together records with a couple new songs, a few covers, and few live cuts between glorious opuses.
Here’s a lame attempt at replicating the success of Hammerfall, White Skull (whah?) coming up short with their own laughing-out-loud Sacred Steel record.
David Wayne (singer on the first two releases) reeks of ex-Exodus’ Steve “Zetro” Souza circa ’86. But Zetro didn’t have Vanderhoof as guitarist and songwriter.
The reasons this sucks are many. Most obviously: This style is now commonplace, unlike when Speak English or Die! came out and knocked us all on our asses.
Part black metal, part Goth rock/metal, all excitingly scary and sexy. For anyone into darkwave, Goth, or whatever else they’re calling it, ya gotta get this.
