Quicksand is dead, but Stillsuit is very alive. They have those energetic and influential “post hardcore” stylings that worked for Shift, and they work here.
It’s just a live CD (plus some other stuff) of Spooky Ruben. It’s pop. Whatever. But amongst that “other stuff” is something that really gets me, down deep.
A catchy collection of unapologetic indie-brand pop, Hot Saki… would probably survive quite nicely on its own, even without the Pumpkins’ added cachet.
Songs like “Hometown” and “Roslindale” describe the hopelessness and inner strength that comes with growing up in the broken down expectations of the suburbs.
