Slughog – at The Middle East Cafe – Review

Slughog

at The Middle East Cafe

We walked in on these Power Rangers in mid-set, and jumped right into the throng of bodies with glee. If you haven’t caught this Punch and Judy act yet, go now. Slughog give punk-core a good name again. How about this: Twin bassists/vocalists up front screaming out in alternate turn, funhouse songs that slam, drop to the floor, then get up and slam you again, and a guitarist whose facial expressions are a show in themselves, all rolled into a rage of silly, self-deprecating anti-serious humor? Sound like a blast? Well, for me, the smile never left my face and I felt like running into a wall head first. I can tell ya that doesn’t happen every night. And hey, you want throb? These guys have got it to spare. But what’s great about their thunder is it makes you want to dance in the rain, instead of running for cover once you’ve seen a few flashes. One of my favorite shows in a long time. See ’em.
