The Specials – with Let’s Go Bowling at Pearl Street – Review

The Specials

with Let’s Go Bowling at Pearl Street

Stop your shakin’ and start your skankin’, cuz I have a show to review for all you ska-heads out there.

Legend has it in the story of creation, the seventh day was a day of rest. Au contraire, my skankin’ friends; on the seventh day, his exaltedness created ska. Out of all the bands in the Kingdom of Skank, one band stands out above the rest – The Specials.

Their performance at Pearl Street was nothing less than ska-a-roovie. After the jazzy sounds of Let’s Go Bowling ended, the stage was set for the legends in the ska nation. Enter Roddy on guitar, Neville on microphone, Lynval on guitar, Sir Horace on bass, and new members: Mark on keys, Adam wailing away on trumpet, Aitch on drums, and singer… I said, and singer: Terry, Terry Hall, are you there? Terry, come out and sing for us.

To my dismay, original singer Terry Hall was off on projects of his own. But when the music started thomping and my skanking feet started stomping and all the happy ska men and women started shaking, I knew the energy would be too much for even the heavens to handle. With songs like “Too Hot,” “Nightclub,” and “Too Much, Too Young,” I didn’t know the words to half of ’em, but I sang right along with them, God damn it! Why? Because I love my Specials.

With the energy of the Specials and the jazzy and funky sounds of Let’s Go Bowling, there is only one thing I can say:
SMURFAROOVY!

P.S. We love you, Terry.
