Juliana Hatfield – Only Everything – Review

Juliana Hatfield

Only Everything (Mammoth/Atlantic)
by Scott Hefflon

While it’s arguable whether or not J.H. is even remotely “alternative” or “indie” anymore, who truly gives a fuck? She’s cute, her bubblegum voice is cute, she writes catchy cute songs with lots of noisy, fuzzy guitars and loud drums, so who cares if it’s pop or not? She remembers her roots, which is better than many of the circle-jerk scenesters on the circuit can say. Corporate Headquarters decided Lollipop was “too heavy” to be included in the ad budget, so it seems the support is one way, but so what? I like this album. I like Juliana. If you don’t (anymore), ask yourself why not.
