Deceased – The Blueprints for Madness – Review

Deceased

The Blueprints for Madness (Relapse)
by Tim Creter

The back of the jewel case reads: “Do you cherish your mind?” as if you are holding a ticket for a musical lobotomy. Not really far off. The CD may be dressed up like some bizarre medical experiment to make you go insane, but Deceased just play good, simple death. No real insanity or bizarre tricks (besides the occasional sample), just 11 heavy and powerful tunes that will please the grindcore ear. A bludgeoning rhythm section, intense guitars, and tolerable vocals make this offering a keeper. The songs have great arrangement, without any over-use of mindless speed-bashing like Cannibal Corpse and the like. Choice cuts include “The Triangle” and “Island of the Unknown.” Deceased pummel you with an originality and aggression that separates them from the rest of the genre. I think The Blueprints for Madness should establish Deceased as one of America’s premier death metal bands. Even if you don’t like death, but just like aggressive, well-played metal, I suggest you check this out.
