The Flying Saucers – Review

The Flying Saucers

(Propeller)
by Joshua Brown

The Flying Saucers, from Austin, Texas, have included members of an eclectic group from four very influential bands (Jon Sanchez and Jeff Hoskins used to be in Agnostic Front and Nice Strong Arm, respectively, and are original members still in the band, while Cindy Toth (ex-Reivers) and Adam Sultan (ex-Poi Dog Pondering) have since left the fold). The band produces charming psych/noise-pop that is the synthesis of many sounds. They have a different angle on the fuzz-drone wah-wah pedal action that I’ll bet is a real kick to witness live. The market may already be inundated with ’60s psych meets ’90s alternative, but if there is another space, the Flying Saucers could fill it quite nicely.
