Death… Is Just The Beginning – Review

Death… Is Just The Beginning

(Nuclear Blast)
by Tim Creter

Two discs. 38 tracks. All death. Whoooaaahhh!! was the sound I made after willfully subjecting myself to this vicious monstrosity. This compilation is a must have. After 21 songs on the first disc I had to listen to my cassingle of Skee-Lo’s “I Wish” to cleanse the palate before cranking up disc two. Bill and the guys at Relapse are either criminally insane, or they just know how to please the public. Having my mind blown was never so invigorating before. Most of these bands I had never heard or heard of before, like Human Remains and Konkhra. The standouts are the ones that stray from the usual death bashings, like Pyogenesis, Monastat 7, Exit-13 (my fave death band), and Dead World. A large portion of this compilation kicks much booty, like Macabre‘s frightening tribute to baby killer Albert Fish or Phobia‘s destroy-everything-in-their-path-style. A song from Boston’s own crust-punk legends Disrupt is thrown in for good measure. All in all, this is the most thoroughly satisfying death compilation anyone will ever hope to hear. All I can do now is wait for Death IV.
