Fleshtones – Laboratory of Sound – Review

Fleshtones

Laboratory of Sound (Ichiban)
by Nik Rainey

Amazing how, two decades on, these guys still sound like a one-band Nuggets compilation. No rock operas or introspective acoustic doodles on these mugs – just fun, fun, fun ’til Daddy takes the Far-fisa away. Peter Zaremba’s vocals still proffer bravado with a sly wink, the call-and-response choruses are as kicky as ever, and the band rumbles on like ’67 never happened. (Well, almost – stick around for their “hidden” cover of Jimi’s “I Don’t Live Today.”) Don’t go looking for revelations here, just an energetic reminder of a time when kids used their parents’ garages for more than suicide attempts. Dig!
