Butterflies – Bored Room – Review

Butterflies

Bored Room (Ng)
by Sheril Stanford

Bored Room is a fine piece of work from the Butterflies, a drums/guitar/bass trio that calls Atlanta home. Tight, crunchy and to the point, the ‘flies manage to find the perfect balance between dissonance and melody. Most of the fourteen tracks on this disc are driven by standout percussion work by drummer Susan Holbrook, and masterful, satisfyingly solid rhythm. Some tunes are marked by a distinctive, pleasingly discordant sound; other tracks apply the more familiar crunch ‘n’ buzz approach. I’d love to name some exceptional cuts, but my version of the CD doesn’t list song titles.
