Victory Style – Review

Victory Style

(Victory)
by Tim Creter

First off, I love the cover art. It’s a cartoon-ish drawing of a mosh pit, with X’s on the hands, fingers pointing, and guys pickin’ up change and doing windmills. Second, this is a sampling of all the bands on Victory. Unfortunately, there are only two new songs; “Grey” from Strife‘s new 7″, and “Abraxas Annihilation” from Integrity‘s latest, Humanity is the Devil.

The compilation continues with standards from Earth Crisis and Snapcase, veterans Warzone and Cause For Alarm, and the newest Victory bands One Life Crew and Deadguy. Also included are the more original bands like Bloodlet, Sweden’s Doughnuts, and the hauntingly powerful Guilt. And then there’s the band that makes you wonder how they got on a label like Victory. That’s right, Hi Fi and the Roadburners. Their song “Fear City” can only be described as upbeat greaser rock that sounds like it’s straight out of the ’50s. It’s also a nice break in the middle of all this hardcore angst and frustration. So, if you’re just starting to meander down the hardcore trail, pick this up – it’s a sampling of the best hardcore on the streets today.
