Darkest Hour – Deliver Us – Review

Deliver Us (Victory)

Been tracking these guys since The Prophecy, Fulfilled on Art Monk Construction back in ’98/’99 or so, and seen them successfully bridge the gap between Americore and tasty Swedish delicacies of death. While I still favor the Swedes – always have and always will – Darkest Hour and a few of the best of the best American bands can duel-layer a lovely little riff from the ground to the stars and have angels swing-and-pole dance in my dreams. Ahem… Yeah, and the smartest move Darkest Hour made was hiring Devin Townsend to produce, engineer, and mix the release. And listen to his ideas for whooshing this and sonicscape arrangement that. Devin is the smartest, most creative metal guy of our generation. Brush against genius, and the pixie dust residue will linger. Or so you hope.
