Porn Flakes – Moo Jack City – Review

Porn Flakes

Moo Jack City (Sin Klub)
by J. Lianna Ness

The title of the disc alone should clue you in as to what this band is about. Silly, sarcastic rap ‘n’ roll by a quirky quintet from Toledo, Ohio. Their live show is sort of a Gwar-goes-goofy theme – stage theatrics include food fights with marshmallows, bananas, and cereal – and you can hear hints of the Gwar influence in the music as well. It’s a musical candy salad with ingredients like Mr. Bungle, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, and Metallica. All the songs follow the same format – rapping rounds by the various members of the band, the standard heavy guitar riffs to give it that “rock” element, along with the requisite dialogue sampling. This should appeal to suburban male teenagers who like to drink and drive really fast (but not necessarily at the same time), and probably don’t know any better.
