Children of Caine – Vol 1 #1 – Review

Children of Caine

Vol 1 #1 (PO Box 9400, Waterbury, CT, 06742)
by Angela Dauthi

Yet another Dark Music `zine that focuses on interviews, and follows with concise, well-received reviews (because they like the bands, not because they’re simple minded). Children of Caine covers doom metal, Goth, darkwave, and whatever else you can douse yourself in white facepaint and feel miserable to (and you can leave dangling prepositions). Not that that’s a bad thing, mind you. They know their stuff. Their opinions are calculated and informed, without jacking off too much over the bands. As an added plus, they include a list of contacts so you can order the albums from the labels. Included are reviews of Beyond Dawn, Mindrot, Rotting Christ, Sofia Run, Faith and the Muse, Mistle Thrush, Mortiis, and Voivod. Another let down was the typeface (pseudo-cursive) which made it hard to read. Otherwise, Children of Caine is a ‘zine worth reading to get a little insight into the darker side.
