By an odd twist of fate, at the time I was assigned this CD, I was forced by my eye doctor to wear icky glasses because my contacts were on the fritz. I was in exactly the right frame of mind to review Nerdy Girl, a band bent on embracing the dork within. It’s the band that the girl from Welcome to the Dollhouse could have fronted once she got the hell out of her house and got laid. “You fuck like a man/ but you act like a boy/ and I’m annoyed” are the first words uttered by the singer Cecil. I’m embarrassed to say how many times I’ve sung this line in public. Cecil’s lyrics are so immediate and familiar you have the urge to riffle through your diary to make sure no one’s been peeking in it.
