Trunk Foundation – Young Cherry Tree – Review

Trunk Foundation

Young Cherry Tree (Alias)
by Joshua Brown

Song one, “Young Cherry Tree,” exemplifies everything annoying about most indie rock: vomit-inducing shy-boy vocals, the tinkly twang of slow verses that predictably give way to half-heartedly heavy, uncatchy choruses. “Turtle” is a little better, because we don’t have to listen to the singer’s mousy voice. Instead there’s a prolonged sample of two rednecks flapping their gums about God-knows-what, while the instruments noisily plod. Song three: see song one. Song four: a kinda neato instrumental that features Archers of Loaf-style string-tweaking and guitar sounds that scratch like hip hop records.
