Bodyjar – Rimshot – Review

Bodyjar

Rimshot (Revelation)
by Austin Nash

Remember all of those bands your friends were in? After the shows you said things like: “You guys rock” (it was loud); “The show was really punk” (a bit frantic and annoying); or “Wow! You guys are really tight” (proficient but really boring)? Bodyjar (Australian for punk) pump out tunes just like I always wanted to hear those bands do. I may have been able to avoid the now deeply ingrained method of lying I currently practice.

Bodyjar concluded a very successful U.S. tour with Pennywise in ’95, and is currently finishing up a blizzardly prolific spin around the European nations. They are licensed in North America exclusively to Revelation and promise to acutely satisfy fans of their debut release Take A Look Inside, which spawned a number one single internationally last year.

The candy on Rimshot is “Glossy Books,” a mellow critique that pokes fun at the rituals of feminine hygiene and material beautification. It’s OK to make fun, guys, but remember that the public societal image of women is partially a product of conglomerate pressure from the majority of us stinky beer-slobbering assholes. Another sweetie on Rimshot is a resurrection of The Police’s “Next To You” (if you hated The Police doing this tune, you’ll be pleasantly surprised).

Bodyjar deliver a quality metal/punk rock sound, emitting shock waves of dual harmonic lead guitars reminiscent of old Iron Maiden, and the drummer taps the skins with uncanny interest and precision. If I had to find a flaw, it would be the moments when, from over the whizzing piss sound I’m making in the toilet, I hear the ghost of Eddie Money emanating from bassist/vocalist – well fuck… some guy named Grant. But that’s just me.
