Hamlet Idiot – Tango Palace – Review

Hamlet Idiot

Tango Palace (Chunk Records)
by Steve Tremain

Terrible production aside, Hamlet Idiot is more than just a clever name. They take an avant-rock approach to music, recalling an unhealthy blend of DC Post Hardcore, Pussy Galore, and NYC’s Knitting Factory on a bad night. Not that Hamlet Idiot is an awful band, some of their low-down Rock ‘n’ Fuzzcore sounds like Jon Spencer, some of it sounds like Harvey Milk (the band, the band), some like Fugazi. Put it all together with a bit of a Lou Reed rip off, and you’ve got a band with an original blend of imitative styles– oops, I mean “influences.”

I’d keep an eye on them (if they don’t break up first), as they might be one of the few interesting bands from Easthampton. Just one thing, guys: Please keep in mind that If you’re going to put out a CD, it will capture with absolute perfect quality the horribly, shitty, completely worthless sound of your master tape. Please mixdown accordingly.
