Once in the running with My Dying Bride, these pale-faced Euro-boys have veered off the Gothic path of doom and jumped on a loosely constructed bandwagon with no steering wheel. The meandering “ethereal atmospheres” go nowhere and Vincent Cavanagh’s drone hits like a pound of Dramamine. Anathema has the artistic resonance and originality of a Holiday Inn painting.
