Blaster the Rocket Boy – Succulent Spacefood – Review

Blaster the Rocket Boy

Succulent Spacefood (Boot to Head)
by Jon Sarre

Not Krishna-core, but Christian-core, Blaster the Rocket Boy is peopled by Skaters for Jesus, so I guess they give new meaning to the term “hardcore” (what else d’ya call it when the two choices presented in nearly every song are “accept Christ or go to Hell”?). Musically, it’s pretty gosh-darn good. That’s to say they rock out just as well as any crowd of Commie atheist punks, like Youth Brigade, for example. They’ve also got a little surf guitar in there and the singer kinda sounds like Jack Brewer from ole Saccharine Trust. As far as the lyrical stuff goes, the concept’s uh… neat – Jesus, sin, and redemption are presented in a sci-fi/horror format, which makes BTRB more clever than Stryper. But I still think bible-thumpin’ cheez-metal was a cooler idea.
