Johnny Boy wrote a play and this has something to do with why he, his girlfriend, and friend drive from somewhere to New York. Inspired by either Nick Zedd or John Cassavettes, there are lots of long scenes involving the three of them driving. They don’t ever get anywhere, but don’t you dare start talking about Waiting for Godot. Of course there are some very clear pretentions going on. A hitchhiker is made fun of because he has never heard of William Burroughs. Everybody smokes. The director tries hard to make this an art film: in one scene, a character of mystery shoots a bunch of Italian guys for reasons which are never clear (it’s like life, man – right). People continue to smoke. Johnny Boy never gets what he wants, even after he feathers his hair. Listen, this review makes the movie sound a hundred times more interesting than it is. The director got his start making industrial films. That also sounds way cooler than it actually is. No graphic sex either – but I’m not sure I would want to see Johnny Boy fuck.
