Freedom Fighters – My Scientist Friends – Review

Freedom Fighters

My Scientist Friends (Amphetamine Reptile)
by Jon Sarre

File under “brawny math rock, Amphetamine Reptile division.” Yes indeed, drop-out kid, ya may not wanna touch this cuz these beefy sounding gents aren’t jokin’ when they mention “Scientist Friends.” Freedom Fighters are smart guys who’ve read Kafka (or seen the movie) and know the oppression of peons the world over and I’d wager they know their way around a university or two. Their lyrics are what you’d call “difficult,” but if ya let the imagery work on ya like on “Bob Dylan’s 119th Dream” or “Crow’s Nest,” the machine-age industrial poetry can cut real close to the bone. Musically though, the start/stop trashcan pound sound leaves me kinda distant. I think I’ll suggest this to that skinny metalhead over there, the one with the genius IQ and a lot of anger to burn.
