I’ve always enjoyed the idea of Deicide far more than I’ve enjoyed their music. A bunch of long-haired metal roarers attacking self-righteous Christians again and again? What’s not to like? But that’s when their music gets in the way. Fast and furious Florida death metal is about as common as a cold, but not nearly as contagious. By the book death metal. A perk for some, a limitation to others. On Serpent of the Light, Deicide (supposedly) don’t say the word “Satan” as often as they have, and actually get into the psychological aspects of living life in hopes of an afterlife. Yadda yadda yadda.
