Are You Dead Yet? (Last Beat)
by Angela Dauthi

Well, well. This is interesting. It’s, um, Gothic lounge music. From Dallas. It’s mostly covers. Like “I Love The Dead,” “Black No. 1,” “I Put A Spell On You.” But there’s more. “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love,” “Suicide Is Painless,” “Helter Skelter,” and, ahem, “Soul Kitchen.” Right. By The Doors. Okay, we’ve gotten through all that. So, is it any good? Well, the CD is structured as a “live show”a la Tom Waits’Nighthawks at the Diner. The comparison ends there, though. They’re a passable lounge band, and that fits their image as an Unlife-After-Vegas combo. A pretty good cover of “The Lady Is A Tramp” and “Harlem Nocturne,” but ultimately I’d prefer to see them live. Somehow it doesn’t translate onto CD very well. However, some of these tracks will be finding their way onto mix tapes…
