Richie Sambora – Undiscovered Soul – Review

Richie Sambora

Undiscovered Soul (Mercury)

What is it with that Hammond organ sound that every post-rock cheeseball seems to equate with roots rock? Perhaps Clapton could pull it off many, many years ago with a song like “Wonderful Tonight,” but he coulda played that on a fuckin’ kazoo and it still woulda been an amazing song. That’s the point. It ain’t the instrument, it’s the songwriting and the talent that plays it. JBJ rewrote the same few great songs so many times, I’d’ve thought Richie would’ve learned how to do it by now. Or at least be able to fake it. But this is so god-awful cliché, I’m thankful it came on cassette so I can tape over it.
