Kumo – Kaminari – Review

Kumo

Kaminari (Airbag/ULG)
by Bob Ham

One reason that drum’n’bass stuff will never hit the high time is the fact that so many people slough the music off much the same way they did with old school techno and house back in its heyday. The argument: “It all sounds the same.” Anyone in the know would spit in that person’s eye for such a comment. If they still want proof, stick Kumo‘s Kaminari (Airbag/ULG) in the CD player and let them hear the truth.

The best part about this release is the fact that Kumo tries so many different textures and sounds throughout. Not only does he hit your more straight-forward drum’n’bass sounds, but he also throws in a generous helping of experimental work along with some dabbling of hip-hop sounds. This is one of the most exciting electronic releases to pop under my nose in the last six months, and definitely one that will either turn your synapses on or get your party started right.
